Useful word: Sugoi すごい(凄い)

The Japanese word sugoi (すごい) can have a positive or negative connotation, depending on the context:

Positive: Can mean "surprisingly good" or "amazing"

Negative: Can mean "surprisingly bad" or "terrible"

Kansai-dialect: very, extremely

Sarcastic: Can be used sarcastically to mean "awful" (Technically, I don't use this in this way)

Sugoi is a very common word in Japanese culture and daily life.

The kanji of すごい is written in this way: 凄い.

The '凄' is composed of '冫' and '妻'.

The character 冫 is derived from the image of water freezing and solidifying.

And the 妻 means wife.

So can you imagine how すごい (凄い) the wife's cold attitude is?
